Favorite Things - A Christmas Gift Guide

Kara Mavar

"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things..."

Most of my favorite (tangible) things are handmade. Being an independent maker, I am a HUGE fan and supporter of buying handmade. I am very familiar with all the love and attention to detail that goes into handmade products. I am also familiar with the pride and joy that comes with knowing that your handmade product is going to be loved and enjoyed for years.

With Christmas quickly approaching, I thought it would be a good time to share with you a few favorite handmade items that I have purchased throughout the years.

Not shown are the many hand thrown pottery mugs that I love and enjoy daily. A few of my favorite potters are:

Be sure to order as soon as possible- handmade takes time but is well worth it!

The Creative Process

Kara Mavar

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”

 -Maya Angelou

It isn't often that I get to tinker and play around with new ideas at my work-bench. My days are usually full of making jewelry for orders and working online. However, as a creative, I NEED this time. Of course there is always something else of pressing matter that is going to need to be done. That's part of the business. But creating is equally important and sort of the whole point! :) It also leaves me refreshed and energized so I can tackle those other important, pressing matters.

Last night, I decided that I wanted to make something new. I had an idea of a design in my head but when I started working, other ideas started coming to mind. I tinkered around with a couple of concepts and then one idea sparked another and VOILA-this necklace was born!

Maya was certainly right about that creativity thing! :) Now I have a few more ideas for new designs!

Now it's time to get back to that other important stuff ;) I have a show this weekend and I have several earrings to make.

Go make something ! :)
